March 2026—The 2025-26 UEFA Champions League play-offs have delivered plenty of memorable moments, with a mix of giant-killings, comeback victories, and high-scoring affairs across the first legs.
Bodø/Glimt's Stunning Double Over Inter Milan
Perhaps the biggest story of the round so far has been Norwegian minnows Bodø/Glimt producing a sensational aggregate triumph over Inter Milan, two-time finalists in the last three seasons. After stunning the Italian champions 3-1 in the first leg in Norway, Glimt backed it up with a 2-1 win at the San Siro in the return fixture.
The Norwegian side advances with a commanding 5-2 aggregate victory, one of the most remarkable upsets in recent Champions League history. They are now facing Sporting CP, 7th of the league phase.
Atlético Madrid Fight Back to Edge Club Brugge
Atlético Madrid's tie against Club Brugge was a rollercoaster. The first leg in Bruges ended in a breathless 3-3 draw, setting up a fascinating return at the Metropolitano. Diego Simeone's side responded emphatically, winning 4-1 to advance 7-4 on aggregate. Atlético, who also have a round-of-16 tie against Tottenham Hotspur to come on March 10th, look ominous heading into the quarterfinals.
Atalanta Dismantle Borussia Dortmund
Atalanta continued their impressive European form by hammering Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in the first leg in Bergamo. The Italian side now faces Bayern Munich in the round of 16, with a reasonable disadvantage in terms of offensive abilities. Bayern is currently one of the most impressive teams in Europe, leading the Bundesliga standings since the start of the season.
Juventus and PSG Grind Out Results
Galatasaray edged Juventus 7-5 on aggregate despite a second-leg loss of 2-3 in Italy. The Turkish side now has the tough mission of eliminating Liverpool to reach the quarterfinals. The first leg is taking place in Turkey on March 10th, with the Premier League reigning champions still needing to elevate the level of their play to avoid any surprise.
PSG ousted its France counterpart AS Monaco on a 5–4 aggregate after a 2–2 draw in Parc des Princes in the second game. Paris was trailing in the score (45’) and then led (60’, 66’) before Monaco's late equalization (90’ + 1). The game ended 2-2, but the club of the Principality had a player sent out from the 58th minute.
Real Madrid Edge Benfica
Real Madrid secured a narrow 2-1 second-leg victory over Benfica at Bernabéu in addition to the first-leg win in Lisbon. Alvaro Arbeloa's side now is hosting Manchester City in what promises to be an epic round of 16 on March 11th, first in Madrid and then in Manchester.
Newcastle UniteMakeske History
Newcastle United advanced past Qarabag FK with a 3-2 home win in their first leg of thplayoffff game, a significant result for a club making only their second-ever Champions League appearance. They now face a daunting sixteenth final against FC Barcelona on March 10th.
Bayer Leverkusen Held by Olympiacos
In a surprise result, Bayer Leverkusen were held to a goalless draw by Greek side Olympiacos in their second game. Leverkusen faces Arsenal in the next round, with the first game held in Germany on March 11th.
This Champions League campaign is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in years—and Bodø/Glimt has already made sure it will never be forgotten.
